do it do it do it

I just found out this band is from my city! I knew them, but I didn't know they were even Brazilian, let alone from Curitiba. And the bass player is the owner of my very favorite club! :D

<lj-embed id="1" />

The video was directed/produced/etc. by university students. Pretty awesome.

na praça vazia, um grito, um oi

I get such a huge kick out of discovering new great music. Camilo just recced me Esperanza Spalding, a double bass player/singer-songwriter doing jazz. She is so fucking brilliant, I can't even begin to describe how much everyone should be listening to her stuff.

Here's her singing "Ponta de Areia", an old Brazilian song. And here's her performing "Overjoyed" live!

On another note, can I say how fantastic university is? It's so refreshing to have professors that I actually respect and look up to. No, seriously, they are awesome. It's so cool to actually look forward to go to classes every day (an entirely new sensation, I assure you!).

I'm going to start drinking water solutions of maltodextrose and maltodextrin. They're complex carbohydrates that are quickly absorbed by your body meaning that if you ingest them before, during and after heavy exercise, they will keep your body from eating all the muscle you worked on gaining to get back its energy! Go bigger muscles!

I swear I'll resist the "twatter" jokes

I used to intensely dislike Twitter. I saw it as one more tool for the ongoing superficialisation (lol new words) of, well, everyone. Overtaking blogs, where you were actually supposed to put some remote semblance of thought into your posts, as one-liners were usually the exception and not the norm, as a system where short texts that can be read in the least possible amount of time are the only way to go, thus making it so that people don't pay too much attention to just one thing and just jump from one topic to another without even trying to contemplate anything they read.

And then I realized that I have a lot of friends who have their own twitter pages and who I never talk to! Thus I realized that Twitter isn't supposed to be an exact substitution of blogs, but a way to connect people and help them stay in touch.

And so I made my own Twitter! Which means, of course, that I'm going to need each and every one of you who are in my gargantuan friendslist to link me to your Twitters.

See how I resisted a "twatter" joke there. It would have fit so perfectly.

Anyway, I don't have a photo just yet (I'll put one up later today) and my updates will be in my native tribal language (Portuguese), which means they probably won't make sense to most/any of you. But I'll follow your entries and reply to them!

In other news, grades for my first bimester at university are in and OH YEAH, I KICK ASS. (Except for that one very disappointing grade but shhh.)
